So we finally made it to Austin, Texas and it feels great to be back again! We got there about a week ago and so far it has been one crazy ride! Our good friend Trae from the Krum Bums is helping us out a lot. Not only can we crash at his place but he also managed to borrow a full backline which we can use for the whole US trip. Thanks a lot to Zack, Ram and Josh for helping us out!
Also for the first time on this tour we're having our own van which makes getting around really nice and comfortable.
The first show of the US tour we played in San Antonio which is around two hours south of Austin. We played the basement of the Korova Club and it turned out to be a really fun show. The people that showed up we're definitely looking for some good times. So even if there were not too many of them they got some crowdsurfs and beershowers going! Good times! Pretty much right before the show we found out there was a house party going on something like twenty minutes from the Korova and that we would be allowed to play there. So right after the show at Korova we packed our stuff and went to this house party. It was already something like 1 am and when we arrived at the house the police was already there because of noise complaints. I didn't exactly understand what happened but after a couple of minutes the police just left and the show was good to go! There was already a backline set up so we only had to plug in our instruments and we were ready to play. Our friend Sam that booked the San Antonio show for us grabbed the mic and gave quite a funny speech to introduce us and to get the attention of all the people that were hanging out in the back yard. And it worked...the living room where the show was happening got really packed and it turned out to be exactly that type of show that we love: it was loud, it was dark, it was packed and it was chaotic! After us played the band of the dude that lives in the house and they fuckin killed it! If i remember correctly they're called Signal Man and they're definitely worth to be checked out.
We got back to Austin around 4:30 am and by that time we still didn't have a show confirmed for the next day. We were trying to jump on the Red City Radio show in Oklahoma City but we were still waiting for a yes or no...around 2 pm the next day we got the call that we could play the show! Since Oklahoma City is about a six hour drive from Austin and we were supposed to go on stage at 9:15 we had to jump into the van right away and start driving. We were really lucky with the traffic and made to OKC just in time: we arrived at the venue, set-up the gear right away and started to play. It was a really cool show for us! There were already a lot of people there and the stagesound of the Blue Note was one of the best we had on this whole tour! In addition to that the whole staff of the club was really welcoming and gave us free PBRs throughout the night!

We were really excited to see Red City Radio because they're one of our favourite bands at the moment and they played a great set! After that the party went on and the whole experience made totally up for the long drive.

The day after we played at the Sidewinder in Austin. Our good friend Trae was promoting the show and he had a pretty hard time putting the line-up together. In the weeks before the show, two or even three bands that were supposed to play cancelled for various reasons. And on the day of the show he got the call of another band that cancelled. So a lot of last minute calls were made and Trae managed to pull some strings and got some very special bands to share the stage with us that night: Josh (Starving Wolves/Krum Bums) did his first accoustic set ever, The Starving Wolves made their first live appearance ever and even the Krum Bums played a couple of songs! So it totally turned out to be a sunday fun-day with a lot of familiar faces, cheers and beers!

The next day we had off and we experienced a full-on Texas treat! First Sam took us out of Austin to a shooting range. It was a lot of fun and something that should not be missed on a trip in Texas! After that we headed back to his house for what turned out to be the best barbecue I've ever had! Our friend Doyle was being smoking his award winning Brisket and some delicious ribs for the whole day and was already waiting ready to serve when we arrived. It was just amazing!

Finally it was time to leave Austin and to start our way east. The first destination was Knoxville, Tennessee where we played at the Pilot Light. A nice club with a very nice staff made it another fun night. The promoter Jeremy took very good care of us. He offered us a hotel room and took us out for lunch the next day. Thanks so much Jeremy for helping us out!

Right now we're in Rock Hill South Carolina getting ready for the next show. It is going to take place in the Courtroom (where we already played five years ago) and obviously it is a costume party...so we're excited what is going to happen...

überyou!http://www.blogger.com/profile/14558518141117358834noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6722631762553257771.post-21068340118968202212015-10-13T23:45:00.001+02:002015-10-13T23:45:57.719+02:00Chile
Chile is the last destination of our southamerican tour and it's being another incredible experience! We had a couple of days off before our first show here and so we got to visit Santiago and Valparaíso. Both of them are really nice cities. From the Santa Lucia hill in the center of Santiago we had a great view on the whole city and the snowy (unfortunately pretty clouded) peaks of the Andes. Valparaíso is a smaller city located at the coast and has one of Chiles most important harbours. There are some very nice beaches in the area as well. But because of the heavy earthquake and the tsunami resulting out of it they unfortunately are rather devistated at the moment.
The tour in Chile consists of five shows and for all of them we're sharing the stage with Temporal from Santiago. One great band that is definitely worth being checked out!
We were lucky enough to tour in Chile at the time of the Furia Festival, a three days event that took place in the city of Talca. We played Furia Fest last Saturday and it truly was a blast! There was much more going on than just music: In the large patio of the venue a lot of people set up their distros for records and zines. There also was a screenprinting lab on the spot where you could hand in a shirt and have it printed with the beautiful artwork of the Furia Festival within seconds.
Shortly after we arrived at the Festival a small boy approached our merch table. It took me a little time but finally I realized that he was wearing a self-made Überyou shirt! Ten year old Felix from Talca is probably our youngest fan ever and I think it's beyond crazy to get to a place as remote from home as Talca, Chile and encounter a young kid that is wearing a shirt of your band.
The show at Furia Festival was insane! Both the crowd and we delivered a great energy and made this one of our most fun shows ever! People in Talca really do like circle pits...Even during our slower songs they didn't stop doing it...
The next day we played in Chillan which is about on hour south of Talca and we got to know the true meaning of a "late show"...or maybe I should call it early show. There were five bands on the bill but when we got to the venue around 10:30 pm the venue was still closed. The first band started around 1:30 am. The venue was really dark. Some few black light lamps were pretty much the only sources of "light" in the whole place. In addition the fact that they played really heavy doom records between the bands did not really help to shorten the waiting...For we were playing last we started our set around 4:45 am...to be honest, we would not have expected this in advance but there actually still was a really good amount of people present at the venue by that time. And they seemed to be way less tired than we were and they really made up for all the waiting. So it turned out to be a great night after all.
Tonight we're going to play one more show in Santiago which will be our last show of the southamerica tour. The last days and weeks have been so intense that I've not yet realized that were slowly coming to the end of this beautiful Latin America experience. BUT...we're not going home yet!
Anyways...from all our hearts we want to thank Sebastian aka "el rey de neumaticos" from Redencion Booking for putting this whole Chile trip together, for driving and showing us around and for putting up with all our shit. We love you buddy!
We'd also like to thank everyone else that was involved in this Chile tour in any way. People like Sergio and his family that hosted us in Conception made this experience kinda unique!

I guess it's the first visit to this country for everyone of us but we hope it won't be the last! Let's start with some food talk for once...the first month of the tour in Cuba and Colombia the food experience was pretty much dominated by rice and beans. Don't get me wrong, I really liked it especially because i don't get it too much back home in Switzerland.
In Brasil we got to eat lot's of fried stuff like Coxinha or Pastel. Both of them were available on every gas station and on little streetfood places in every city. And of course I should not forget to mention Prime Dog, Sao Paulo's number one spot for late night burgers and Acai.
Now in Buenos Aires we can totally feel the influnece of the Italians that immigrated to the city in the early 20th century...there are lots of pizza places all over the city and they are good and really cheap! And they like to add A LOT of cheese to their pizza. So the last couple of days we have been on a pizza diet...
So far we played three shows in Argentina and all of them were great fun! One of them took place in the center of Buenos Aires and the other two in Berisso and Temperley which are smaller cities in the greater area of Argentina's capital. Getting to the gigs here is quite an experience because other than in the countries before we're only using public transports which is kinda funny because we're getting a lot of attention when we try to squeeze into the subway with all our gear during the rush hour. But it's all worth it and to be honest I'm quite surprised in a really positive sense how well the shows went so far. I would not have expected so many people to come out for example in Temperley on a late sunday night.
Argentina definitely is a great experience so far and it' not over yet! We're stoked for what is to come!

Constant travelling, meeting a lot of old and new friends and most of the time playing late at night made the last two weeks a very intense but incredible experience. And like in the countries before we feel like we spent more time here than we actually did.
During the last couple of days we got the chance to play with and get to know some really cool bands and artists that you definetely should check out. Amongst them are Rooftops from Russia, Chris Snellgrove from Canada, Better Leave Town from Brasil or Overseas from Costa Rica. The latter experienced the worst nightmare that could happen to a touring band...after their gig in Porto Alegre they were just about to leave as a guy with a gun popped up at the driver's window of their car, forced them to get out and stole the car along with all their instruments, merchandise and personal belongings. They were left with pretty much nothing but the clothes they were wearing. I guess at that point most bands would have called it a day...but these four guys didn't! They moved on and missed only one of the four other shows in Brasil which was pretty impressive and inspiring.
The show in Florianopolis took place in the Taleysin Rock Bar, a cave-like place with a cool tiny stage in a corner. It turned out to be a really cool show with an enthusiastic crowd that was willing to party throughout the whole night! Floripa is actually an island with a lot of beautiful beaches. So the next day we really wanted to get a taste of that. Of course we did not get up before noon and of course by the time we arrived at the beach the weather turned and it started to rain...we finally realised that winter in Brasil actually exists...
Later the same day we played in Blumenau, home of the biggest Oktoberfest out of Germany - and home of our friend Luis from Nunca Inverno who booked our last tour in Brasil. It turned out to be a really cool night with lots of familiar faces, beers and cheers. Unfortunately we weren't able to spend more time in Blumenau because we had to drive back to Curitiba straight after the show. We were all kinda passed out in the back of our two cars and did not even realised that we had to stop and exchange a flat tire somewhere on the road. By the time we got to Curitiba the sun had set already a couple of hours ago. So the day was spent resting and getting ready for the first edition of the Prejudizo Fest later that night which was scheduled at 92 Grados. This place was probably the coolest venue we came by in Brasil! For over 20 years it is run by the same guy. He built all the interior pretty much from scratch and puts an unbelievable amount of energy into it and already hosted bands like Fugazi at 92 Grados!
The show ended really late and we only could close our eyes quickly becore all the bands hopped on a big bus back to Sao Paolo for our last show in Brasil where we were supporting Title Fight! It turned out to be complet change to the shows before. The venue was huge, so was the stage and for a change we really had to stick to a schedule. The show turned out to be an amazing experience for us! Although we already played around 6pm there were already a lot of people at the venue. And they took a lot of interest into our show - we even managed to get the first stagedives of the night!
The Title Fight show was insane! People went totally crazy and made this an unforgettable night. But eventually it came to an end and it was time to say goodbye to our friends from Under Bad Eyes and to Xao who stayed with us throughout the whole Brasil trip. We want to say a huge thank you to all these guys, to Rosanne and Wellington who made their home our home, to Luis and the BNU Punx and to everyone else that helped us out or came to our shows! We hope to see you all very soon! Überlove/Überyou

It is being so intense and so much fun! During the last six days we've been playing five shows in Sao Paolo, Piracicaba, Santos, Rio de Janeiro and Sorocaba. We're travelling with two kinda small cars which makes fitting all the gear and smelly clothes into the trunks quite a convenient challenge every night...But also besides our Eau de Cologne moments there have been so many impressions in such a short time that it is kind of hard to get a hold of it all. Every city and every venue had a charme of it's own. In Piracicaba for example the show took place in the basement of this old school kinda bar where we got treated with homemade Cachaça and Rabo De Galo. Don't even ask what the latter is...you gotta try it for yourself! In Santos we played in a lovely small studio and got our asses kicked in the playststion Tony Hawks Pro Skater contest that was driving people crazy before and after the show.
Rio De Janeiro has been a really special experience to us. After a long drive we arrived at the Dona Vegana Restaurant which was the venue for the show. It is a really nice and welcoming place with great food and lovely people that also offered an art exibition. Although it was a rainy Sunday (and someone told us that the folks in Rio are kinda afraid of rain...), lots of people came out for the show and made it a beautiful night. The next day was an off day so we got the chance to do some sightseeing in Rio. Even though the weather was kinda shitty we just had to go for a swim at Copacabana. The good thing about it was that we pretty much had the whole beach for ourselves. And the Caipirinha bar was serving drinks despite the gnarly temperatures...It was already getting dark when we paid the Sugarloaf a visit. But this didn't make the view less spectacular! From up there we could overlook the many beaches, bays, neighbourhoods and hills of Rio enlighted by thousands of lights...it was really epic!
Tonight we just played in Sorocaba and we were looking forward to this show a lot because two years ago it has been one incredible night. And we should not be disappointed! This time the show took place in a tiny but really cool bar and again the kids were such an energy driven, welcoming and just beautiful audience!
We're heading for Curitiba right now which will take us about six hours and will be the starting point of our next four shows in Brasil: Florianapolis, Blumenau, Curitiba and Sao Paulo again...fuck yeah!

A couple of hours ago we arrived in São Paulo, but the last days in Colombia are still very present in our heads. The last show in Bogota was just amazing! We played in an abandoned chinese restaurant together with really awesome bands from Bogota: Isla Tortuga, Whites and Ximena Tenemos Que Hablar. Altough it was a monday, there were already a lot of kids even before the doors opened. And just after the first band started to play the venue was packed and both - the crowd and the bands - delivered a nice energy. The show was promoted by the super nice guys from the "Rattrap" cultural center which is a really cool place that offers screenprinting facilities and workshops, a rehearsal space and art expositions, just to name a few. This place is DIY culture lived to its fullest!
Anyway, when we were about to play it was already getting late and people not only hung out inside the venue but as well on the sidewalk in front of the venue. Because it was a monday and a rather quiet neighbourhood and there were no permits for the venue or the show, we heared some whisperes that we might get a visit from the police...and we did. But luckily they just arrived during our last song of the set. Still it was a bit of a bummer because everyone had to leave the venue immediately and there was no time to hang out and talk to everyone.
The next day we met up with Julio from Discos Sin Fronteras - this guy really made our time in Bogota an unforgettable one - and went up the Montserrate mountain to get the perfect view of the city. From up there we truly realized the huge dimensions of Bogota. Later we visited the Rattrap and said our goodbyes to everyone before we left for the airport. So now a couple of hours later, here we are in São Paulo, Brasil! We got picked up at the airport by our friend Favela and right now we're enjoying the hospitality of São Paulo's finest Rosanne and Wellington. Tomorrow will be the first of nine shows in Brasil together with our friends from Days of Sunday and Under Bad Eyes... we truly can't wait!
Right now we're on a bus heading for Bogota and thereby crossing mountains as high as 3500 meters. Not only the views you get on those rides are breathtaking...but so are the driver's ambitions to overtake every slower vehicle on the road - regardless of the limited view or the traffic.
The last week we've travelled a lot, encountered totally different climates and landscapes and visited different cities in Colombia such as Medellin, Cali, Armenia and Perreira. In the last couple of days we also enjoyed the most different accomodation experiences such as being the only guests in a big recreational village in the middle of nowhere, sharing beds with cats or staying in an old "art deco" hotel that still preserved his charme from the 50ies and would have made the perfect background for Shining 2.
All the shows in Colombia were kind of a last second thing so we are really greatful for all the help we recieved from everyone involved! Thanks to David from "Desnudos en Coma" for adding us to the Cucumbo Festival in Cali and making his home our home. And another huge thanks to Jorge from Armenia for organizing the shows in Perreira and Armenia and for looking after us during the last couple of days. We hope we can hang out and share more beers and rum very soon!
So...before getting all sentimental about leaving Colombia...we'll play another show in Bogota tonight and we are really excited about it! And altough we would have loved to spend more time in Colombia we're really looking forward to Brasil!

We arrived in Bogota a week ago and ever since it has been the best of times! The hospitality we encountered here is incredible. When we got to Bogota we had only three shows confirmed. Now it looks like we're gonna play seven shows in Colombia.
Last friday we played in Bogota in a rehearsal space and it was absolutely crazy! The place was small but packed and the energy of the crowd was incredible! It didn't even matter that one of the guitar amps broke during one of the last songs. Everyone enjoyed the singalongs, crowdsurfs and pile-ons.
The next day we took a plane to Medellin. At the airport we got picked up by our friends of "Son De Arena" which we got to know in Cuba two years ago. It was the most beautiful welcome I ever experienced! Their whole band came to pick us up at the airport and they brought their traditional drums and pipes to play us some welcome tunes. It took us about an hour to drive to Marinilla and it was just one insane ride! During the whole trip they played traditional songs in this tiny van. Beers and aguardiente were passed around and before we even got to Marinilla everyone felt kinda dizzy, but in the best possible way! And it got even better: the guys from Son De Arena rented a finca for the weekend! It was located a little bit out of town on top of a small hill and was surrounded by a nice garden with orange trees and offered a beautiful view on the Marinilla area! And when we got there, there was already a lovely smell coming out of the kitchen. And just a couple of minutes later we got served the best colombian style homecooking food that you could imagine! It was so delicious and it was a lot. So after the meal everyone took a little nap.
Later in the evening we played at the Ocelot Bar in the city of Marinilla. It was a saturday night and the town was really busy. The streets were massively crowded and the traffic was insane! Just standing in front of the bar and looking at the scenery was like watching a movie.
Anyways, at some point it was time for us to finally play and like in Bogota it was one insane experience! People danced their asses of, sang along and went totally crazy! So far we never came across such enthusiastic crowds as in Colombia! We're so excited about the next shows to come!
After two weeks in Cuba we are now on our way to Bogota. Cuba has been a blast! The last three shows in Havana and Pinar Del Rio were probably the best out of all the Cuban dates. In Havana we played at Maxim Rock which is in fact an old movie theatre that has been turned into Cuba's only venue dedicated to alternative rock music. It can hold a crowd of about 800 people and specially on the second night it was packed!
Pinar Del Rio on the other hand was special because the stage was actually small compared to the others we played in Cuba - which in fact appealed to us because it's what we actually like better than big stages. We had the honour to play at last that night and therefore close the curtains of the summer edition of Brutal Fest 2015. There was a really cool energy in the crowd and when some guys of Joliette and The Strapones joined us on one of our songs, it became a really crazy party!
Cuba was not only about the shows...they were all great but it's not gonna be the only thing we'll remember from this trip: it was a truly great pleasure meet with the people that are putting so much effort into the Cuban Punk/Hardcore scene - regardless all the obstacles such as expensive and bad internet access or legal restrictions. Jalbierto Ramirez and his webzine www.rompiendo-muros.tumblr.com should be specially mentioned here.
It also was great fun to catch up with old friends like the guys from Adictoxs, Switch or Blinder. And we are so happy to have been able to tour Cuba with a bunch of so cool bands. Not only our Swiss buddies from Vale Tudo and The Strapones but also Joliette from Mexico and Get The Shot from Canada. They made hanging out in hotel lobbies and at shady hotel bars quite e
an experience. We really hope to meet those funny and warm-hearted guys again soon!
We also wanna say a huge thank you to David Chapet from Brutal Beatdown who made this all happen and to the whole Brutal Fest Crew that looked after us throughout the whole trip!
We are honestly a little bit exhausted from the whole Brutal Fest experience but on the other hand we are truly excited about getting to Colombia! On Friday, we will play in Bogota and we can't wait for that! Stay tuned.
Überlove/Überyou

It's a city located pretty much in the center of the Island and was the last city that was conquered by the guerilleros during the revolution. We stayed at the hotel Santa Clara Libre in the center of the town. Some of the last battles of the revolution took place right there and you can still see a lot of bullet holes on the walls of the hotel. We already played in Santa Clara two years ago and so it didn't take us long to run into some friends of the local bands such as Eric from Blinder or Pollo from Adictoxs.
We were looking forward to the gig in Santa Clara for a long time because Santa Clara is kinda the Punk Rock capital of Cuba. But...to make a long story short...the gig didn't happen...just like in Bayamo it started to rain just when the first band was about to start. Even though the rain stopped after about fifteen minutes it was not possible to play because the power strips were soaked with water and the Brutal Fest crew decided that it was just too dangerous. It was a really sad moment because a big crowd was there and was eager to see the bands. We were trying to make any kind of a show happen. So we talked to Pollo the singer of the local band Adictoxs. He tried to move the show to a venue called El Mejunje which is probably the only independent cultural center in Cuba. But unfortunatly it was not possible because they already had another line-up for the night. So we figured that the only thing we could do was to do an accoustic set of some kind. We went back to the city center to the local Malecon where the local Punks and Metalheads use to hang out every night. Pollo brought his accoustic guitar and Marc started to play some Ramones covers. In no time a lot of people gathered around us and started to sing along. Every couple of songs the guitar got passed around, bottles of rum were shared... and Brutal Fest was finally happening! Not on a stage but in the street...it was a really crazy experience to do a kind of a flash mob street gig in Cuba! I think that's what Punk Rock is all about and the kids in Santa Clara really got the spirit!
It definitely was a night to remember! Even though there was no regular show, we'll never forget this night! Let's hope we can make it back to Santa Clara some day!

It has only been one show so far but the Brutal Fest tour already blows our minds! From the moment when all the bands met in Havanna it has been one big party! Besides Vale Tudo and the strapones that are good friends from Switzerland, Get The Shot from Canada and Joliette from Mexico are joining this trip. The first day of the tour was a very long travel day. It took us about thirteen hours to drive from Havanna to Holguin. The bus broke down after a pretty short time but you could tell from the reaction of our drivers that this was not an unusual thing. They stayed very calm, got their tools and had the bus fixed within an hour or so. Finally we got to the hotel in Holguin. The first show was about to happen the next day. Because of the heat the shows start pretty late so there was a lot of time to hang out at the hotel pool....and the 24 hours pool bar. We were the first band to play that night and so we had to go to the venue a little earlier to set-up and soundcheck. The venue was actually pretty epic! It's located in the centre of Holguin on a rooftop where you can overview the central square of Holguin. Big clouds started to build up when we were soundchecking and soon some lightnings started to flash around us which made the whole scenery really epic! Luckily it didn't rain throughout the night and the show could happen as planned. Pretty soon the venue was packed with people and both the crowd and all the bands were really excited to get it going. For us it was a really fun show! The first show of a tour tendd to be a bit hard sometimes but this time I felt comfortable from the very beginning. The fact that the local soundguys did a great job helped a lot! The stage was made out wooden planks and already during our second song some of those planks cracked which left us on a stage with two holes...it looked kinda scary and i was a little worried because we were only the first of six bands that night. But again, the Brutal Fest crew managed the situation in no time and fixed the stage within our next song.
To play first was kinda cool because so we could enjoy the other bands after our gig. They all did a fantastic job! But I have to mention Joliette! Those four guys from Mexico - that are the nicest dudes to hang out with - absolutely killed it! Their "mexikanisches handgemachtest glutenfreies krößt" was one of the best live performances I have seen in a long time! Their energy was overwhelming!
Right now we're on our way to Bayamo where the next show is going to happen. I can't wait! We're so stoked to be part of this!

Even though the internet situation improved a little bit compared to our last trip to Cuba, it's still hard to get online. So I don't know when I'll be able to upload what I'm writing right now....anyway...stay tuned. More stories and pics will follow.
Cheers! Überyou

We arrived pretty late and so we unfortunately didn't got the chance to see a lot of the city. Again it was already dark when we got to the venue and again the sky looked kimda menacing. Lightings were flashing but luckily they seemed still quite far away. The venue was called "Anfiteatro Parabailar". There was a huge seating area - which easily could have held a couple of tousand people - surrounding the dancefloor in front of the stage. There even was a massiv LED screen behind the stage where they were showing videos of the bands that were about to play. This night it was Joilette's part to set off the party. But then halfway through the soundcheck...it started to rain again. It wasn't heavy rain but it was to much to just go with it. So all the PA stuff had to be covered with plastic and the backline had to be taken off stage...and we had go wait. After the Bayamo experience everyone got pretty nervous and feared that we had to cancel another show. But the rain stopped soon and the backline was set-up and Joliette got ready to play again...and just before they were ready to start the next raindrops fell. We already knew the deal: cover the PA, backline off stage and so on. This game had to be played three more times before Joliette finally could start the show around half past twelve. The crowd that has been anxiously waiting was going crazy really quickly and we knew that it was going to be a good night after all. Vale Tudo was up next and they nailed it and left a really happy and warmed up crowd! Then it was our turn to hit the stage. Because it was already so late all the bands rushed during the changeovers and it was pretty much a plug and play thing...which actually worked quite well. A couple of guitar strings broke throughout the night but all the bands were really supportive and were lending their instruments or helped changing strings.
After three songs of our set Ian said that we would give away some CDs for free on stage and invited the kids to climb on stage and get them. I guess we kinda underestimsted how desperate the Cuban kids are to get new records...a internet connection is slow and still nearly unaffordable and there is not exactly a virgin store around any corner...anyway, the kids were raiding the stage to get a CD and the Brutal Fest crew was running on stage as well to protect the backline and all the equipment! Luckily everything was still working and from that point on the show was a real blast!
It was already late but there were still four more bands on the bill! By the time we finished and got back on the bus it wss around four in the morning and bus call for the drive to camagüey was only five hours later.
So it was a short night but right now were 10 kilometers outside from Camagüey. We got the night off so let's see what happens...

It was only a short ride and so we had some time to relax before we went to the venue. When we got there we could hardly believe what we saw: the stage was enourmos and about one and a half meters high and in front of the stage was a huge square with almost the size of a football field! I guess they like it big in Cuba...right next to the venue there was some kind of street food festival with a lot of locals hanging out and there also was a pretty cool Cuban band playing traditional music. So of course that got our first attention. Meanwhile the local audio crew was preparing all the gear for the show. Soon we got word that there seemed to be a problem with the electricity. I wasn't to much worried at first but it turned out to be a more serious issue. Apparently there are limited contingents of electricity for events and there seemed to be not enough left for all the bands to play. A lot of phone calls were made by the brutal fest staff and the mood got kinda tense. But finally it looked like the show was about to happen. We just had to wait for the official electricity tech to sort things out. A lot of kids were already hanging out in front of the stage and were waiting patiently but anxiously for the show to start. Around midnight the power could finally be switched on and the first band prepared for a quick soundcheck. But it was not kent to be...pretty much when they were about to hit the first note it started to rain. It only rained for like five minutes but it rained heavily! Because the stage was not covered all we could do was to get the backline out of the rain as quick as possible. After the rain stopped it quickly became clear that there would not be any show that night. There was to much water on the stage and dangerously close to the electricity sources. All the bands especially all the kids were really bummed out about this fact. We went into the crowd to hand out some records at least and it was really sad to see the disapointment in tbe kids' eyes. Besides the Brutal Fest there is pretty much no alternative live music in Bayamo which means that the kids have been longing for this event for half a year! It was really sad but there was nothing we could have done...
Let's hope that we'll be more lucky in Santiago de Cuba tonight.

By the way...it turned out to be quite an epic night after all...including a lot of horse taxi riding, snakes and the local CSI branch trying to solve the case of a stolen mobile phone...

Dear friends and gentle hearts
in a few hours we're gonna fly to Cuba and start our South America tour! We don't know yet how often we'll be able to get online during our stay in Cuba. So you might have to wait a couple of days for our first tour update. Stay tuned!
It's really happening! Only a couple more days and we're off to our biggest adventure so far: 3 months of touring in Cuba, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. We spent almost a year planning this trip and finally everything seems to get together. We will start our journey in Cuba where we'll be part of the Brutal Fest Tour. We will play eight shows in seven different cities. A huge thanks to David Chapet for making this happen!
After Cuba we'll travel to Colombia. This is gonna be the least settled part of the trip but things are slowly comming together. We'll be playing in Bogota and Marinilla for sure and some more dates are in the making. Anyway, we're really excited to visit Colombia, a country where none of us has been before.

Brazil will be next. Together with our friends from Under Bad Eyes and Better Leave Town we're gonna travel hundreds of miles and play ten shows from Belo Horizonte all the way down south to Florianapolis. https://de-de.facebook.com/events/1454774858158012/
And further south we go! Argentina will be next. Another country we haven't been to. After the show in Banes and the afterparty at the hotel we only had little time to rest. Again we had to get up really in the morning because the next show was took place outside the city of Holguin. We were told that we were supposed to play at a beach and we we're pretty excited about it because this was going to be another fitst time experience for us. But we had no idea how crazy it was about to get...! This day, there were about 9 big busses waiting to bring all the participants of the festival to the beach. So pretty much every delegation was supposed to perform at the same spot this day. The beach was a part of some kind of a national monument because it's the spot where Colombus found land for the first time after his journey across the atlantic. So we kinda expected some kind of refernce to this fact...we arrived at a parking lot from where we could overview a beautiful bay with a sandy beach. Right after the point where the sand turned into solid ground, a stage was set up. A lot of people were already there or arriving and gathering at the beach. And what we were kinda joking about a little earlier was really happening: the title track of the movie "1492 - conquest of paradies" roared out of the PA at full power. It was a little amusing at first but I have to admit that it didn't left me completely untouched. The whole scenery and all the people gathering and the wind that sent massive clouds rushing over the bay where pretty epic.
No one really seemed to know whar the schedule for the day was. So we asked David and he went off to find out at what time we were supposed to play. Soon he came back and handed us a bottle of rum, telling us we would play last. It was only about 11am and yesterday's booze was still present in our bodies. But hey, we were in Cuba! So we opened that bottle...and looking around us it became obvious really quickly, that pretty much everyone on that beach was doing the same. We met our new friends from Colombia and they were already at least one bottle ahead of us! So we spent the next couple of hours swimming in the sea watching the other groups perform and of cours...sipping rum. More and more local people started to gather at the beach as the day went on, even the local cowboys on there horses.
yeah, the title is right...we - a punk rock band from Switzerland - played at a festival called "festival de la cultura iberoamericana" in Holguin Cuba. Not only one show...but four shows on four different days at four different locations...! Let me explain this:
Our Cuban booker David Chapet usually books two festivals in Cuba: the Brutal Fest that takes place twice a year and the Ciudad Metal. We managed to go to Cuba at a time, when none of those festivals were happening. Nonetheless, David tried to put a tour together for us. He became aware, that this year, for the first time ever, the festival the la cultura iberoamericana broadened their musical range to rock music. So he talked to the people in chare and managed to get us four shows at the festival!
The festival took place in the city and the surrounding regions of Holguin, a city in eastern Cuba. It is also called the city of parks because about every two blocks you'll find a big square with a lot of trees and benches that make for great gathering and drinking spots at night.
About 30 delegations of south and central American countries - and Überyou from Switzerland - were participating and performing at the festival. The spectre cover pretty much every art form such as comedy, dance, painting and music. Although we didn't really fit in geographically or culturally, everybody made us feel very welcome. For Ian who is the only of us that speaks fluently spanish it got a little exhausting. Because he had to introduce the band to the promoters, the other delegations and pretty much anyone that was curious. But he managed like a pro and should really consider a career in PR now...
Three of our four shows we played with the local death metal band Mephisto. Like every other Cuban band we met, they were really unbelievably talented musicians. Our first encounter was kind of funny: It was even hotter than in Havana, so everyone of Überyou was wearing flip flops, shorts and a tank top...then we met Mephisto, all dressed in black, wearing leather pants and heavy boots...thats dedication!
The first gig we played in a pretty big open air venue. A lot of people - I guess around 200 - came, but the venue could have held about 1000 people easily. So the crowd was pretty scattered at first. But a couple of songs and Ians charme and Spanish skills, they moved together and towards the stage. But the most serious action of the night was going on after the live shows were finished: The DJ played some metal classics and the remaining crowd went totally nuts. During every chorus they moved towards the stage where no band was playing and moshed like there was no tomorow. Watching it from far felt a bit like watching a battle scene from Braveheart...hilarious!
We were told, that the next day we and a couple of other delegations would perform in a city called Banes about two hours outside of Holguin. We didn't really know what to expect yet....so the next morning we got picked up at the hotel and went to the Casa de Iberoamericana which was the headquarter of the festival. There were two buses waiting for us and the other delegations. As soon as we got in, we realized that this would not be just another show...! Flags were installed on the bus windows and at the buses front, a poster was attached. It read: "Brigada Internacional de Solidaridad". And last but not least, a police escort on a motorbike was clearing the road for the two buses that were running at full spead, overtaking bicycles, slower cars and carriages. It was kind of funny and a bit scary at the same time...finally we arrived in Banes, a small twon in the midle of nowhere. The entry of the two buses with the police escort seemed kinda misplaced at first but then we got to the place were the show was going to happen and we finally realized what was going on. In the last couple of years, Banes got hit and destroyed by hurricanes twice. The towns only cultural attracion, the theatre got destroyed as well. So the promoters of the Festival de la Cultura Iberoamericana sent out this "Brigada Internacional de Solidaridad" to this town...and we were part of it!
It was the middle of the day and the sun and heat were really intense. We were scheduled as one of the last groups and for that, we seeked some shade and watched the other groups performing. Especially the Colombian group catched our attention. They all played traditional instruments. A lot of them were different types of drums or percussive instruments. But they also played some crazy flutes we never saw before. The group had a great spirit and they were great guys as well. They outpartied almost anyone every night we saw them...! As the shows went on, more and more locals were gathering. There were very few people with bandshirts but generally the crowd was just a mix of all kinds people young and old. So we really didn't know what to expect from our show. Especially after someone told us that we were the first European band that played in Banes ever. But it turned out to be the most special show we played so far! You could easily tell that a big part of the crowd never heard that kind of music before...but we could also see the smiles on peoples faces getting bigger and bigger. As always, Ian went into the crowd to sing and a lot of the kids wanted to sing along even if they never heard a song of us. So one guy just grabbed the mic and started rapping to our punk rock tunes. It was pretty funny and beautiful at the same time! The schedule was tight and so we could only play five songs. But it was way more intense than a lot of regular sets we played before and although it was incredibly hot we all got goosebumps while playing. It might sound weird, but it's kinda special when a 70 year old Cuban guy walks up to you after your gig to thank you for playing (a punk rock show) and telling you that you'll be always welcome in his house and in his town. I guess the Banes show was a once in a lifetime experience for everyone of us! It's hard to describe but for me it was probably the most special and most emotional moment of the tour.
After the show, a lot of cheers and pictures were made with everyone but pretty soon we found ourselves in the bus again. The driver seemed to be in a hurry and the ride back to the hotel turned out to be kind of a death race. Everybody on the bus was getting more and more quiet - especially after we almost missed a turn for the second time...someone later said, that the driver had tried to get back before dusk because it was to dangerous to drive at night....well....no comment...
But we arrived at the hotel save and sound, still excited about the whole day and went straight to the hotel bar. There we sipped some rum til late and met funny people like the anchorman of a Cuban cultural TV broadcast and Mr. Muy Importante...Holguin had already a big place in our hearts.
The night before we travelled to Santa Clara, we discovered the tiny bar in the basement of our hotel in Havana. The sign at the door said they're opened til 11pm...but we found ourselves hanging out there til early in the morning, making friends and drinking with the hotel staff and some kids from the neighbourhood. We already knew we wanted to spend some more nights at Hotel Bruzon when we get back to Havana...
The next morning we luckily got picked up at the hotel for the trip to Santa Clara. Last night's rum was still dancing in our heads and we used the journey to get some sleep.
After we arrived in Santa Clara we met Raida, a good friend of David, that helped to promote the show in Santa Clara. We had a walk around the small but lovely downtown area of Santa Clara before it was time for a interview on the local radio station. We learned that radio stations are still the number one promotion tool in Cuba. Because besides newspapers, it is the only media source pretty much everyone can afford. Nonetheless it was funny that our first radio appearance ever was broadcasted live in Santa Clara, Cuba!
In the evening we went to the Mejunje Cultural Center. This was the place we were supposed to play the next day. The venue's architecture was really cool. It was basicly an old colonial- almost castle-style building with a big open patio in the middle where all the activities took place. This night it was a dance party with a mix of 90s classics and reggaeton tunes...it turned out to be a really fun party!
The next day we got to the venue around 4pm because the show was supposed to start around 6pm. There we met the guys from Blinder, the local Metal heroes, that shared the stage with us that night. Right after the backline was set up, it started to rain a little, which was kind of a problem because the Mejunje was an open space...so all the gear got covered with plastic and we waited. We we're getting a bit concerned if the show was going to happen at all...but as soon as we realized how relaxed all the Cubans dealt with the whole rain issue we grabbed a beer and tried not to worry. While we waited, we met a lot nice people from local bands and learned how tough it is to play in a rock band in Cuba. It's almost impossible to get new gear such as guitars, amps, microphones or even strings...so even rehearsing as a full band is almost impossible because there are no microphones or speakers to reharse with. The singer from Blinder told us, that he has to record the band playing with his phone, to practice his vocals at home with his headphones on...I guess no one in Switzerland or Europe would put up with stuff like that to play music in a band. The Cubans do! And the result is pretty stunning! They really know to play they're instruments play thight as shit!
Finally the rain stopped and the show started. It was already getting dark as Blinder unleashed their heavy riffs on the crowd. After their set it was time for our first show in Cuba and we really didn't know what to expect. It was gently raining again, so all the electronics got wrapped up in plastic...but our concernes about getting shocked got washed away really quickly. The show turned out to be amazing! The crowd was a blend of punk kids, metalheads and just curious people young and old. So I guess that a lot of them didn't hear a lot of punk rock before. But everybody seemed to enjoy the show. The movement in the crowd permanently increased! In the middle of our set, we passed our instruments to the guys from a local punk band (i'm really sorry but I can't remember the name...to much rum...). They played a great catchy song and after that the party really started. While we played the next song, Ian got picked up and lifted on the shoulders of a guy...and performed the rest of the song from up there. All kinds of crazy stuff happened. Some kids grabbed the mics and tried to sing along even if they never heard the song before. The result was pretty funny...but great! At the end we were all soaking wet. It was a mix of sweat, rain, and beer and it tasted awsome! After the show we had time to hang out at the venue for a bit and to talk to a lot of people. We heard some really crazy - sometimes funny, sometimes really sad - stories about the daily life in cuba...to much to tell here.
As the venue closed, all the crowd and the bands walked together to the central square of Santa Clara. This little park turnes to the number one hangout of all the locals every night. The little bar just next to it supplied the cheap rum or vodka bottles that got shared in the park throughout the night. We had a great first show in Cuba were hungry for more!
...I almost forgot to mention Angelo...this about 70 years old Santa Clara metalhead was just great. He could sing about every classic metal song with a voice that James Hetfield could only wish for...
After a ten hour drive from Blumenau to Sao Paolo (thanks again Mr. Joel for all the driving!!!) we had just enough time to grab our stuff at Wellington's house before we went to our last show in Brasil. Altough it was a sunday night there were quite a lot people gathering and is was really nice to see some familiar faces from that we got to know in Sao Paulo a week earlier. Before we started the show we all felt a bit sad because we knew we had to leave straight after the show...but as soon as we played the first tune we just enjoyed this last brasilian gig. After the show there was only little time to hang out and say goodbye to everyone but still it was kind of a sad moment. But before we knew it we were rushing to the airport. Then it happened: on a turn that was leading us to the highway, one of our cars got a flat tire from a big rock on the street. It was a really dark and kind of a sketchy part of the city. And the cars that were overtaking us didn't slow down at all. So everyone got a little nervous. But there was no other option than to unload the car get the spare wheel out and get the flat tire fixed on site. Luckily we made it to the airport on time and about 2 am we were on our way to Bogota. We got there at about 6 am with a five hour layover ahead of us. Another 3 hours later we finally made it to Cuba. Our first expirience was not the best: At the immigration they immediatly spotted us as first timers in Cuba and made us buy some wierd insurance for travellers. No one we asked later in Cuba had ever heard of that kind of insurance...but at least we made it past the border. Outside the Airport we met our good friend Marlon. He accompanies us whenever he can to our gigs back home and flew in from Switzerland for the Cuban leg of our tour. And he truly is a good times ambassador!
Also, David Chapet our local prommoter was already waiting for us. He runs the Cuban metal label Brutal Beatdown and organises the Brutal Fest twice a year. For us, he put together six gigs in Havana, Santa Clara and Holguin. He's a really great guy, always relaxed and never averse to a brew. That we noticed only minutes after we checked in to the Hotel Bruzon and bought our first beers for a stroll through the neighbourhood with David.
We had a couple of days off which we really enjoyed after the last ten days with almost no sleep but a lot of party. So the next day we took one of Cuba's really nice oldtimer taxis to get to Santa Maria Beach. I've never been to a more beautiful beach: almost white sand, turqois water and palm trees as far as you could see! And you could get really cheap fresh coconuts that were filled to the top with fresh coconut water - and after a fiew sips were refilled with rum! We had definitively arrived...
But at the same time, we experienced so many crazy and beautiful things that it feels like being away from home for ages. Tonight will be the last show in Brasil. We're going to play in Sao Paulo for the second time. And after the show we'll head straight to the airport to catch our flight to Havanna for the second half of our tour.
The last three days we spent in the south of Brasil, playing in the cities of Curitiba, Joinville and Blumenau, the home of our dear friends Nunca Inverno. All the shows were great. Everyone in its own way and with its own special features to be remembered. Like for example the venue in Curitiba that was in fact a vintage thrift store and a really nice bar at the same time. After the show we were hanging out till late, browsing through their awsome vinyl collection and listening and dancing to a lot of classic records.
I liked Curitiba a lot in general. We had some time to hang out in the city on the next day. João from Nunca Inverno took us to some cool hangouts and nice record stores. I think that for a city that is the home of approx. 3 million people, Curitiba is pretty relaxed and easy going.
We didn't get to see a lot of Joinville (except for radio burger) on the next day because we were a bit late and had to go straight to the venue. The show started pretty late at night and the promoter got a little nervous about noise complaints but it all turned out fine. A lot of people were attending the show and created a intense atmosphere for all of the five bands that played. After the show we drove straight to Blumenau which took us only about two hours. We got there at around 6 im the morning. But we only went to rest for a couple of hours because Luis wanted to take us to a waterfall, located in the middle of the forest just outside the city. And it was worth the trip! Diving into the clean and freazy water made us feel newly born! After that we went back to Luis house where he had prepared a BBQ. Once again, it was really delicious! We were really excited about the show in Blumenau because it was the homebase of Nunca Inverno and we have heard a lot of good things about the scene there. And we shouldn't get disappointed....! All the bands were really great. Detrito Acidente, a young local band, played with incredible energy and started some serious action in the crowd. After them we got to see Under Bad Eyes, the band of Gordinho that was doing merch for us on the whole trip. It was a great show and it was funny to see the always relaxed Gordinho going crazy on stage! Up next was Nunca Inverno and they killed it! Everybody present was singing along and enjoying their show. For me it was the best show we saw of them!
Then it was our turn and even after five bands the crowd was still full of energy and ready to party with us! There was some crazy action going on. Ian probably spent more time in the air than on the ground... and Luis from Nunca Inverno featured some vocals on two of our songs which was really great. After the show and a couple of beers later, we had to say our first goodbyes because most of the Nunca Inverno guys stayed in Blumenau. We had a really amazing time together and we are very happy to have made acquintance with these great guys! Nunca Inverno, Gordinho, Wellington and Rosane...We'll miss you!
Thanks to everyone that was part of this trip in any way. We had the time of our lives! Cheers. Überyou
Our day off on the 15h of October just came at the right time. After the long travels, four shows in a row and some serious partying with our new brothers from nunca inverno we needed some rest. Actually we wanted to make a trip to the beach but unfortunately it was pouring rain all day. So we skipped that. In the evening, Favela's family held a BBQ for us! They treated us like kings: lovely fresh food, cold beers and sweet caipirinhas and the incredible hospitality of Favela's family made this a night to remember!
The next day we started our way down south. The first stop was Bauru. The show took place in a garage of a house. Once again everyone involved with the show made us feel very welcome! We got to eat some great food and - a first for all of us - some amazing Acaí Cupcakes!
The crowd attending the show was partying hard to both Nunca Inverno and Uberyou. And after the show we went to a Boteco, a typical Brazilian street bar. There we hung out until they closed the bar, drinking beers and caipirinhas and singing Against Me! songs with some locals on the street.
The night was really short. We had to leave early for Curitiba because it was about a 10 hour drive. It's actually still going on but we should get to Curitiba pretty soon...so currently we're reloading our batteries with our friend Johnny and are looking forward for another great night.
Well tonight.....!!!
